How did edward change throughout the course of the twilight book?

It started off in 1666 with Carlisle. He was a pastor's son in London and was leading a mob of people against a group of vampires that lived in the sewers. The coven were very annoyed and attacket the mob and with Carlisle as the ring leader he naturally got bitten though the leader was killed.

In 1918, Carlsisle was working as a doctor in Chicago when the Flu Epedemic was in it's height. There he found Edward, dying in a hospital, so he decided to change him because edward had no-one else.

A few years later in 1921 when working in Ohio he found Esme (who had jumped off a cliff) being wheeled to the morgue (because the humans had pronounced her dead). With his fantastic vampire hearing he heard Esme's heart still beating. He had treated her ten years before hand when she fell out of a tree, so he rememberd her so he felt obliged to change her.

Carlisle, Esme and Edward then moved to Rochester, where Rosalie lived, and in 1933 she was attacked one night and left to die in the streets. Carlisle found her and decided to change her.

The four of them went to Tennessee. In 1935 Emmett was out walking in the woods alone where he was mauled by a bear. Rosalie (who was hunting at the time) smelt his blood and then carried the dying Emmett back to Carlisle where he changed him.

Those were the vampires that were changed by Carlisle (and how Carlisle was changed himself). But what about Alice and Jasper?

Around 1920, Alice was changed. She doesn't remember a thing about her human life, but she was kept in an asylum for her premonition's. a old vampire who had taken a liking to her changed her because James wanted to kill her.

Jasper was changed in 1863 by a vampire called Maria, who he met when out on patrol with the Confederate Army. He was them trained and fought in many vampire battles.

He becomes more confident in their relationship and is willing to put Bella's safety and well-being above his own desires. Overall, Edward transforms from a distant and mysterious character to a caring and protective partner.
