Martin Luther King, Jr. was influenced by Gandhi's believe in nonviolence.

King studied both Gandhi and his teachings. Gandhi inspired him with a new way of looking at things.
King learned that power and social change can come from love and truth.
Gandhi's search for truth influenced King. Gandhi believed he could find truth through tolerance and concern for others.
Gandhi believed you have to have courage to be truly nonviolent. When King went to India in 1959, he said it influenced him because he go to meet Gandhi's son other relatives.
King loved the fact that he did not witness anger while he was in India.
After King talked to some of Gandhi's followers, he was was convinced that nonviolence was the strongest way to help people to freedom.
