There are currently more than 20,000 different firearm laws in the US at Federal, State, and local levels. Politicians are considering adding more laws, but existing laws may go unenforced. It is an attempt to regulate behaior by regulating things. People that will violate laws against robbery or murder will also violate gun laws.
