This question is based on a false premise. Bill Clinton, a Democrat, received a clear majority of votes to become United States president, and therefore received more than half the mainstream Christian votes. Mainstream Christians in the United States do not assume they must always vote Republican. The so called Moral Majority hardly represented mainstream America.
