Texas used to be part of Mexico until Mexico broke off from Spain. Mexico made new laws that Texas didn't like so the Texas/Mexico war started and eventually Texas became part of the US.
They cry and feel sad...
It just raised hatred against Americans. The many interventions against Mexico by American troops damaged the Mexican-American relations for decades, at least until president Roosevelt visit to Mexico in 1943.

The annexation of Texas did not end disputes between Mexico and the United States. Mexico asserted that the border was the Neuces river, while the U.S. claimed the Rio Grande river formed the border.
Texas had fought a war with Mexico and won. They declared Texas to be an independent country. Texas later applied to become part of the United States. At first the United States said no because they knew Mexico would protest. But a wave of feelings called "Manifest Destiny" made Americans feel that American would get better if it grew bigger. James Knox Polk campaigned to make Texas part of the United States but it was done before Polk became president. Mexico did protest and the United States invaded Mexico. In addition to Texas, America took land for Arizona, California, and Nex Mexico.
The Texas settlers, were virtually being suppressed by Mexico. Yes, they still had most of their individual rights, yet they were sort of being controlled. It's sort of like dictatorship. All who rebelled were either killed or arrested. Usually both.

Some Americans disapprove of NAFTA, or the North American Free Trade Agreement. This is because many feel that the influx of products from Canada, Mexico, and South America devalue the wares from the United States.
