Yea, nationalism played an important role in two world wars. In both wars, Germans, who were very conscious of their nationalistic attitude, tried to conquer and rule the whole world. During 2nd world war, Italy under Mussolini joined hands with Hitler of Germany in the race with the same nationalistic vigor. The other countries who joined the axis did not have the same nationalistic feeling, with the only objective of ousting the German-Italy duo and to make an end of the years long world war and establish world peace.
