In some cases, there was little or no independence movements of any size in colonies in Africa and the Far East. There were exceptions however. In several situations, there were rebellions in the West Indies against European colonial power, and there was also internal conflicts within European held colonies and territories. Texas and Mexico can be cited as one form of nationalism playing a role. Also, French intervention in Mexican affairs was another issue. Since world wide European empires existed in the 19th century, each case is best considered on its own merits.
