The natives were angered by the invasion and took action and attacked the English settlers by shooting arrows and killing them. It did not help when John Smith was trying to calm them down by trying to make them under stand that they mean no harm the other English men were still enraged and trying to attack the natives making matters worse...

White people want Native Americans removed from the US because they feel threatened. They've tried once to get rid of all the Natives when settlers first came to N. America. And Natives are becoming more educated and succeeding more. So now that they pose a threat white people want them out.

Why did US settlers in the west feel they were being attacked by the Native Americans?

Indigenous americans were being attacked because the Americans just went into the native Americans land and destroyed and killed them. They conucted genocidal looting raids, surrounding camps on horseback and plundering the group - raping, pillaging, burning, killing, stealing and generally having a nice time. Naturally they incited some attack from the indigenous people although we're talking bow and arrow versus gun. However, indigenous americans were much wiser, so they had an advantage which probably freaked out the settlers.
