The settlers moving west and taking over their land is what upset the Native Americans about the settlers moving west. The Native Americans had lived there and made their homes there, they did not want to have to change their way of life.

Native American traditions (religion for lack of a better word) state that only "demons" or "bad things" live contrary to the world around them; settlers were (and are) demons because they cannot see, hear, touch, feel, or live with the world around them. To us most of the settlers, and their descendants, are blind, deaf and dumb.

Did settlers and Native Americans often fight?

ANSWERTrick question actually, usually the Native Americans didn't attack but the settlers used force to drive them out.ANSWERThere have been many times that the settlers fought with Native Americans. Most often, it was because the settlers used force to drive the Native Americans out of their land, or the Native Americans fought to get land back that the settlers had wrongfully taken. Sometimes, the native people attacked the colonists or pioneers because the settlers would violate treaties they had made with the natives.
