Oxygen is a natural element, and is produced inside a star by fusion processes, beginning with hydrogen - helium and so on. It is the third most common element by mass in our Milky Way galaxy, after hydrogen and helium.
There are three common isotopes, 16O, 17O, and 18O, with 16O being by far the most common (>99%). There are another dozen minor isotopes, mostly radioactive with short half-lives.
Some 18O is generated by the capture of a helium nucleus by a nitrogen atom. This isotope is useful, as being more massive, it occurs more commonly when the atmosphere warms.
The 18O/16O ratio is used as a measure of paleo (ancient) climate, for the oxygen ratio is preserved in ancient ice, and other oxygen-containing substances.
yes.
Oxygen can exist in Lewis's basement.
Oxygen Fluoride which does not exist, but oxygen difluoride does exist. However, it is very reactive. It is a very strong oxidizer.
No one would be here today if there was no oxygen.
oxygen
Such a compound does not exist.
molecules
a gas
facultative anaerobe
Life on Earth, or at least most of it, would not exist without free oxygen. It is possible that some other form of life, based on another element, could exist in a non-oxygen environment. But none has been discovered as of now.
it can exist alone as a diatomic molecule eg O2 oxygen
Burning (oxydation, reaction with oxygen) is possible only when oxygen exist.
