Pregnant slaves often faced harsh treatment, including physical abuse, lack of proper nutrition and medical care, and increased work demands. Some plantation owners viewed pregnancy as an opportunity to increase their workforce through the birth of more slaves. Additionally, pregnant slaves were vulnerable to sexual exploitation by their masters or other slaves.
