The American dream was all about pursuing people to success, although it had no concrete basis. People got impressed with its spirit that anyone, who can work hard shall get success. WWI was also all about success, that is, imperial power. America's getting involved into the WWI proves that the American Dream has clearly to do a lot with WWI.
It isn't clear the American Dream was affected-- and keep in mind that this phrase was not in common use in the 1910s. Americans shared the hope of moving up in society and becoming successful, but this hope wasn't called the "American Dream" until the 1930s. That said, the desire of the average American to someday achieve a peaceful and prosperous life was certainly delayed when the US finally entered the war in 1918. At that time, families were disrupted because many men were sent overseas to fight. Whenever there is a war, those who go to fight it may be killed or injured, and many are never the same. But as for the US itself, many Americans had never wanted to enter the war, and as soon as it ended, the public was optimistic that there would never be another world war. In fact, people believed we would now have an era of peace and security, and they were eager to get back to living their lives.
