Pretty much when the first settlers settled down over there and brought over a bunch of diseases and Christianity and began to teach the Hawaiians English, they decided they wanted Pearl Harbor because its a great trade route to send ships from the United States to Japan etc etc.. So they decided to go to the ruler of the Hawaiian Islands (king) and force him at gun point to sign over his land and annex the Hawaiian Islands into America. YAY!
