Here's a background
  • If the Japanese did not die right away from the bomb, the effects of the radiation did. Many got cancers like Leukemia and other radiation illnesses. Also, some people faced birth defects.
  • "The Mushroom Bomb" killed about a forth of a million people
  • It killed people from less than 100 miles away and farther
  • The Bomb was dropped in both Hiroshima and Nagasaki, military centers or industrialized cities.
  • HIROSHIMA: 73,000 people out of a population of 365,000 people die
  • NAGASAKI: 37,500 people out of a population of 200,000 people die
  • This all happened because stupid Hitler decided one day he wanted to rule the world so tried taking over Europe including our pal Great Britain, or the United Kingdom. (***Hitler basically caused World War II. If he hadn't started it, we would not have been involved in the war where we had to bomb Japan. Please know that Hitler is the indirect reason for the atomic bomb while President Truman was sort of the direct reason.
  • ^President Truman wanted a quick end to the war. He also thought that less Americans would have to die. Don't forget that this was about four years after Japan had attacked Pearl Harbor. Also, we were not able to fight with soldiers because we needed way more soldiers than we had. It would have taken 6 months to get enough men to fight.
  • U.S.A threatened Hidiki Tojo to surrender or else we will use a very powerful weapon on his country, he didn't surrender
  • April 6, 1945 we dropped the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima
  • Tojo still didn't surrender
  • The Japanese would not surrender because they wanted to protect their emperor
  • We dropped another bomb on April 9, 1945
  • Before we dropped those bombs Tojo was helping Hitler rule the world by trying to take over Asia bit by bit
  • Tojo asked for a cease fire we said, " Ok if you think you have enough men."
  • The War was over in a matter of 3 months
  • September 2, 1945 W.W.II, the worst war ever was over!
  • Of course my friends, the Allies won thanks to the atomic bomb

In addition to this, the balance of power is now controlled by the countries' nuclear power. After the end of the second world war, countries rushed to make their own bombs to balance out the power. For a couple of years, the United States were the world's one and only superpower. Once Russia (or the Soviet Union at this point in history) achieved nuclear power the Cold War started up. The Cold War was basically Russia and the US pointing their bombs at each other daring the other to fire first. Nothing came out of this stand-still but during these times the threat of World War III and a nuclear war were very real.
