They dug something like a well and dropped a bamboo stick down the hole and allowed salt water to ender the pole, then they sealed the bamboo pole, lifted up the pole from the ground onto the surface and then took all of the salt out of it by getting iron pots with salr water:
-letting the water evaporate until salt grains were left.
