The attack on Pearl Harbor shook the isolationists. Many realized they could no longer mantain their view of isolationism. Many were angry that the government had not resolved the problem with Japan before they attacked us. Some remain isolationists and yet at the same time helped in the war effort. Part of the problem with isolationism in the World War 2 era was the lack of global understanding. They did not have the internet, television, worldwide instant communication methods or instant news. People tend to be more globally oriented now but many will still say to stay out of foreign affairs. It is not a realistic attitude since we depend on foreign trade and manufacturing and oil. Many people in the Forties did not realize that either.
