By approving the lend lease act there would be more jobs, ship yards reopened and other manufacturing plants could be reopened for business. The UK was desperate for everything that would be provided by the lend lease act being approved. How did the lend-lease act and the Atlantic charter change the U.S. involvement in world war 2?

The Lend-Lease Act, signed by Roosevelt in 1941, offered the allies access to the United States vast supply of munitions and war vehicles. This was a large step away from the neutral stance that the US had taken in the 30s with the Neutrality Acts. With the Lend-Lease Act, the United States gained the ability to openly supply any war resource to the Allies, showing that the United States had taken a strong position with the Allies. The Atlantic Charter, signed later that year, was a joint agreement between Roosevelt and Churchill on their plans for the post-war world. This was significant because it showed the world that the United States wanted a hand in defining the post-war world and would no longer sit on sidelines and be non-interventionists. Following the Lend-Lease Act and the Atlantic Charter, the United States took a stronger stance against the Axis and became more involved.

What are lend-lease payments?

During the mid-1930s, with it becoming clear that war was coming soon to Europe, the US Congress passed a series of laws aimed at keeping the US out of war. These "Neutrality Acts" disallowed the US from getting involved- it even made it illegal to sell weapons and ammunition to anybody involved in a war. Fast forward to 1941. Nazi Germany has overrun much of Europe. France has been defeated and occupied. President Roosevelt, despite the Neutrality Acts, wanted to help the British. So he was able to get a new law passed, which is nicknamed the "Lend-Lease Act". This law got around the Neutrality Acts by not selling weapons. Instead, the guns, tanks, ships, planes, etc were given to countries on the Allied side- mainly Britain and the Soviet Union- and those countries were supposed to give them back after the war was over. They were also supposed to make lease payments, just like if you rent a car or an apartment. However, the reality is that the US was more interested in winning the war than collecting the payments or equipment. After the war, a lot of the debts were ignored or heavily discounted, and those other countries often were allowed to keep most of the equipment they were given under the Act.

What was so controversial about Lend-Lease?

the us said it wanted to be neutral in the war but the lend-lease act that the usa made with britain let the british take old 'destroyers' (military ships) from the usa and the british let the usa use some of their naval bases in return. The controversial part was that the usa was subtly helping the british in the war despite declaring that it was neutral. (and they also did a whole bunch of other stuff that made them not-so-neutral like the 4 neutrality acts n embargos and what-not) Hope that helps! :)
