well if you look at all the Norman weapons and compare them to the English weapons, you can probably see why. the Normans were also more prepared and the English were tired after another battle just before. there were more Normans than English and the Normans sort of tricked the English during the battle.
To explain the entire battle would take a long time, but William had a better plan and was able to use his resources better. He used his knights differently and with more force. The Saxons depended on the foot soldiers instead of knights as a main fighting force. Harold had taken up a defensive position on Senlac Ridge and at this point he had an advantage because the Norman army had to attack uphill. Somehow a rumor started, while the battle raged, that William had died causing panic and flight. Many of the Saxon fyrdd pursued the fleeing Normans down hill. When William announced he was still alive the Normans rallied. Williams brothers were both slain on the battlefield. As dusk fell William ordered his archers to fire high into the air and one of the arrows hit Harold in the eye blinding him ( some sources dispute this information). Whether this is the case or not Harold fell mortally wounded under his standard. The Saxon army fled, Harold's body was mutilated by the Normans ( William punished the men who did it) and Saxon England died with Harold.

William didn't think the English would be easy to defeat, or he wouldn't have brought the size invasion force he did. The reason they were easily defeated is because they faced two invasions in rapid succession, on either length of the island.
The Saxons/English lost to the Normans/French well.
