I may be wrong but most if not all Indiginous Americans believe in the Great White Spirit whose messages are sent via the "circling winds". ****** Answer. I would correct "Great White Spirit", presuming you meant to say Great Spirit, meaning God, Great One Above All Things, Creator, Mundu or any of the numerous ways we have of referring to God. The spirits would contact you through many ways including visions, dreams, instinct etc. You could also meditate and listen for messages from the spirit world.

Why were visions important to the Indians?

Visions were and are important to Indians because it is their direct connection to the spirit world and the Creator. As traditional Indians follow the guidance of the spirits, they listen to what they say. The easiest way to know what the spirits want to show you is through visions. It is not, however, easy for most people to have visions. Visions can come to you in dreams or while you are awake, while your are meditating or not. They should always be listened to.

What changed the way the Plains Indians hunting?

The obvious answer is 'when the white people killed off all the buffalo'. And the hide trade combined with government cupidity in hustling Native Americans off to reservations was pretty much the end of the plains lifestyle. But the thing that really changed how the plains Indians hunted was the horse. Once enough horses were tamed, the mighty buffalo could be hunted in enough numbers to sustain a specialized nomadic lifestyle. But horses were shipped to the Americas by the Spanish during the period of their conquest and colonization beginning in the 1500's. Enough horses were brought and bred by Europeans and eventually bought (or stolen) by the Indians to change their entire culture. But the famous notion of the Comanches and Sioux, arguably some of the best light cavalry the world has known, was based on a period of time that lasted barely 300 years.

Is it normal to contact the spirit world and then lose contact for months afterwards?

Answer: From an Occultic perspective the spirit-world timeline is non-linear. What is a few months from a mundane perspective may be a minute or two in the Otherworld (aka Spirit World). In Occultism, the Spirit World is the main world and from this come all other worlds. This world is independent from our "material" world, but both worlds interact all the time, but are independent from each other. Definition: Spirit world - The term used by Spiritualists and others for the dwelling place for those who have died, or left their physical bodies, as well as a place for other spiritual energies and/or dieties. I wish I could answer this question from a Native American Spirituality perspective, but Native American "religions" are quite diverse. Many Native Americans believe in an ever-presence of spiritual forms, that they are always present. Many occultists and spiritualists believe that as well. Those that believe this theory, would presume that the energy form never left you, only that you weren't looking at it clearly. Of course, there are those that believe in an Afterlife. So a third theory, is that the spirit has moved on and passed into the After Life. If you assume this theory, and have lost contact with a ghost or other spirit, it is feasible that the spirit has transitioned from "limbo" into the After-life.

What does the clairvoyant readings determine?

A clairvoyant claims to be able to contact those in the "spirit world" (in other words, the deceased). The readings do not determine anything as such, rather, the clairvoyant will attempt to make contact with the spirits and relay any messages that they receive.
