the Allies had a double agent that the Germans thought was loyal to hitler. the double agent cause the German to believe the invasion was to be mounted at the Pata Calsis region in France. But the actual invasion was at Normandy, France, on 6 June 1944
the allies 'leaked' information through a double agent that the invasion was to be at Pas-de-Calais, France which the German expected. theGerman did not expect the landing at Normandy, France nor did the expect any landings at that time due to bad weather.
The landings in NW Africa were by mainly US forces in WW2. It is a sad fact of History that the French fired upon the very people coming to try to liberate them from the Germans.......... the landings enabled the British, moving west from Egypt through Libya to Tunisia, to corner the Axis forces in North Africa & make possible the landings in Sicily & the Italian mainland. the Allies won
One thing they did was to send out false radio messages so the Nazis would think the landing would occur at Calais(which was the most narrow point of separation between Britain and France) It apparently worked because Rommel kept a major part of the Panzer(tanks) divisions in the area around Calais. Actually,Rommel had no control over tank deployment. In this case Hitler decided to do it himself and as a result the main Wehrmacht tank units were not released for use until afternoon of 6 th June

When playing basketball, it is important to conceal the ball from your opponents who would try to steal it from you.
The Allies used fake tanks, tents, and trucks made out of wood in Northern East Anglia to simulate massive army buildup. To assist with this they used the flamboyant General George Patton to make many appearances and give speeches in this area - hinting that this was his army.

How did the central powers and allies try to influence American public opinion
Try a product called Dermablend. It should be able to cosmetically conceal it.

Operation Overlord was merely the plan to make a successful landing, to gain a toehold in Europe. It was done in a single day. But the planners had planned ahead to D+90, that is, 90 days after the landings. They did not try to go any past 90 days because they were certain that events would intervene and their plans would only be approximated anyway, and the longer past the initial landings, the more actual events would cause deviation from their plans. By D+90 the planners estimated the Allies would be closed up to the Seine River, which was roughly accurate. It took about seven weeks after the initial landings for the Allies to build sufficient strength to break out of the beachhead. The Germans had most of their strength in the cordon they threw around the landed troops, trying to contain the invaders, and once the Allies broke through this crust, there was little to stop them going where ever they wished in France, except for their own shortages of gasoline, ammunition and supplies.
