The comprise of 1850 require white people in Northern states to return all run away slaves back to their masters in the south. This cause a lot of Black people who had never been slave to be sold into slavery. White people did not care whether you was a run-away slave or not all they knew was that you was black and your word was no good so you could be sold for 300-2,000 dollars and your family would never know what happen to you.
