The Emerald Ash Borer is a predator to ash trees. It infests and feeds on ash trees, causing severe damage and often leading to tree death. The invasive beetle is a significant threat to ash tree populations in North America.
The Emerald Ash Borer
Herbivore
The emerald ash borer thrive in Michigan due in part to the fact that Michigan has so many Ash trees. Part of how the emerald ash borer spreads is by people hauling firewood from one part of the state to another and they unknowingly are also hauling the invasive insect with them.

There are two types of stingless wasps that lay eggs in the larvae of emerald ash borer. Currently these wasps are being used to control the spread of eab especially in areas where chemical controls and removal of infested trees are difficult. Additionaly, woodpeckers eat the larvae. In fact this is a good way to tell if you tree is infested with eab. The woodpeckers go crazy trying to find fresh larvae to eat, and expose their feeding galleries.
