It was through time and building of more cell towers. In 1984 when the first cell phones were sold to the public they were large, bulky, and calls were dropped or not completed at all. As time when on the size, and the cost went down. I had an early cell and only would use it if I had to because the charges were by the minute and roaming was really high. There were no perks or packages or internet. Another factor was the start of more cell phone companies selling phones. Yet, I would have thought that the prices today would be lower.
