I think it may be because they didnt want the slaves (peasents to try to get help from around the world on the internet.

Harriet Tubman indeed faced many obstacles in her quest to help free other slaves. Due to the Fugitive Slave Law, her capture was worth $40,000. And there were hired people to try and capture her along her journey. She could have been sent to prison. I believe she was considered an outlaw.

They snuck into plantation farms and helped to free the slaves, Some tried to save the slaves by violence so they attacked the slave owners or slave holders to try and kill them and some legally argued with them by saying every man is made equally.
