Alexander the great conquerd most of the know world and spread the greek language and greek ideas that's why it was called a hellenistic empire
After Alexander the Great took over the Persian Empire he began a policy of Hellenisation - his vision of bringing Greek culture to the eastern world to civilise it. His early death cut this short, but his generals carved up his empire amongst themselves and continued the policy of Hellenisation, partly successfully for some regions. We now call these kingdoms the Hellenistic Kingdoms as, although not completely Hellenised, they spread a veneer of Greek culture over the eastern Mediterranean which lasted for a few hundred years.
The ancient Indian cities of Harappa and Mohenjo-Daro (an apparently peaceful and highly advanced society) were destroyed by the Aryans; a light-skinned and warlike invading people. it was not the Geography of Greece which influenced western civilisation. It was Greek civilisation and the fact that the Greeks migrated out of Greece. They migrated to western Turkey, southern Italy and Sicily and they founded Marseilles in southern France. Thus, they created a Greek world which extended beyond mainland Greece. The Greeks influenced the peoples who lived near then. They also influenced the Romans. It is though this influence of the Romans that the Greeks later influenced western civilisation.
