The Jews in the region and elsewhere were naturally excited by this diplomatic success and began to make arrangements to actualize this state. The Muslims in the area did not want an assertion of Jewish sovereignty in the area and made strong moves to oppose it. The Balfour Declaration increased tensions between Jews and Muslims in the Southern Levant because a Jewish State was now an actual possibility as opposed to vague musings.
