The north was always more industrialized the the south. At the time before the civil war, The south had many business affairs with Great Britain. The Souths main focus was on producing cotton for GB. This also was the beginning of the need for slaves. The North on the other hand was only focusing on industrializing. Creating factories, weapons, and starting to create more urban environments. So when the war started, the north having more technology available to them, was able to over come the south.
