The function of the majority of prophecies was to chastise the people for any imperfections and to urge them stridently to reach greater spiritual levels. The Sages and their disciples, and the religious people in general, understood this fact and appreciated the benefits of the prophecies and their Divine inspiration.

The ones who chafed and resisted were whoever was inclined towards idolatry or other sins.
