The decline of the, (Mostly Muslim), Ottoman Empire, primarily caused by

a conservative and powerfull clergy (which cause it to fall from a pre-eminant

position in central Europe in the 1700\'s to the \'sick man of Europe\' by the \'1900\'s),

caused it to become a bone of contention among potential collinizers,

(and the political and economic justification for them to start WW I).

They refused to modernize, couldn\'t compete in a changing environment,

and became a target for power/territory grabs.
