Very poorly.

Slaves were legally classified as property and therefore cargo. They were laid horizontally on wooden shelves and stacked on top of each other, often with only inches between the shelves. Food was scarce and not nutritious when it did come. Disease was rampant and dead or dying slaves were just thrown overboard, sometimes still alive.

Slavery was (and still is) a terrible thing and an event that Western countries and African tribes (who often sold captives to the white man as slaves) should be very ashamed of.

Were slaves on a slave ship nude?

Yes. Slaves were branded and their clothing was removed, either shortly before they boarded the ship or as soon as they were on the ship. Some slaves, usually children who were allowed to be on deck, were sometimes given the crew's old clothes.

What happened to the slaves when the ship landed?

After a transatlantic voyage, slaves were typically sold or auctioned to work on plantations or other labor-intensive operations in the destination country. They would endure harsh living conditions and continue to face exploitation and mistreatment. This marked the beginning of their life as enslaved individuals in a new land.
