they were really mad sinces slaves were considered property and how can the goverment free there property. The "property" would do all the heavy lifting in the buisness and the owners would get all the money that the"property" should receive.

∙ 9y agoSoutherners were forced to acknowledge the freedom of slaves, but to many that was all that they accepted. Few believed that Black people should have equality with Whites. This was also a view of many Northerners as well, as noted by Frederick Douglas. The Southerners, however, had an additional point of view on the whole matter. Many believed that like the Native Americans, Afro Americans would eventually assume the same status as them and fade away from main stream life in White America as did the Native Americans.
