It sure affected the firefighters who set up headquarters in one of the buildings. They knew a lot about ordinary fires, but this was jet fuel which melted aluminum, causing the building to collapse. Most of them weren't performing dramatic rescues at the moment. They just got clobbered.

One of the engineers who designed the building tried to warn them, but couldn't get through.
