Groves was put in charge of The Manhattan Project to develop the bomb, and scientists use theories about nuclear fission to construct bombs with the elements of Uranium-235 and Plutonium-239. The first successful bomb was code-named "Trinity," and it exploded on July 16, 1945. Less than a month later, the United States dropped the bomb Little Boy on Hiroshima.
