The pioneers began killing thousands of buffalo, on the Native Americans land. Thousands had already died from the drought, disease, and the destruction of their habitat. The native Americans tried to preserve their way of life. They then signed agreements with the U.S, giving up some of their land in return for food and supplies and respect for their rights and their land forever. But these agreements were broken. The Native Americans turned to war, in the end, the U.S was too strong, and the Native Americans surrendered in 1886. Then, in the late 1800's the U.S forced Native Americans onto reservation. Then they passed the Dawes act in 1887.
