When it comes to murders, of course, there are any number of methods mentioned. For executions, the two main ways for the Israelites seem to be the sword--presumably a "run-through"--and stoning. Stoning was very popular. Also hanging, if a rope was available. God had a whole repitoire, from plagues and earthquakes, having people killed by bears and lions, and the ever-popular Angel of Death. The story of the 10 Plagues of Egypt mentions just a few. Some Canaanites worshipped Ba'al and allowed their children to "pass through the fire". They also dedicated new homes by sacrificing and burying their newborns under the floors of the home and building over them. Sickening it is. God stated in The Bible that the sins of Canaan were manifest. So when God had the Israelites defeat the Canaanites and take over the "Promised Land" they were justified in doing so. Interesting to Note: this was the beginning of the struggles of Israel and Palestine (ancient Canaan). If the question is how did Jews put someone to death whom had been legally convicted of a crime punishable by death there was only 4 legal means. A person could only be sentenced to death by the great Sanheadrin. This was a body of 70 elders/TORAH scholars. No matter what the crime was if the person was pronounced guilty by all 70 then he/she could not be put to death. This was because the person had to have an advocate and since none of the 70 wish to be his/her advocate he/she could not be sentenced to death. On the other hand of there were a number of witnesses to the crime and the evidence was sufficient to warrant the death sentence and if the death sentence was imposed there were only three methods of execution legal, stoning, strangulation, Sword or burning. The Sanheadrin served for life. A Sanheadrin era was determined when the youngest became the oldest. A Sanheadrin that sentenced even one person to death in 70 years and he was executed was labeled 'A Bloody Sanheadrin. Stoning was done by throwing them off a cliff and if still they were still alive, throwing stones at them. Strangulation was generally done by hanging. Killing by sword, well, isn't it obvious. To be put to death by fire was most gruesome. A person was required to stand in deep dung with ropes tied to them to keep them from getting away, their mouth was forced open and hot molten lead was poured into their throat. Many people are aware that this conviction required a minimum of two witnesses that actually saw the crime being committed. What very few people know is that once the person was sentence to death by the evidence presented by the two witnesses it was the two witnesses whom were required to carry out the execution. This tended to make most 'witnesses' think twice about being a witness. I'll give one example, the rest you have to find out for yourself, OK? I'll post a link on right side. Psalm 137:9 Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones.

How is God just?

Answer: Arguably, God is not just. The Old Testament frequently talks of God favoring the Israelites over all the other people of his creation, even causing Joshua to commit genocide in capturing the land of the Canaanites. The early Christian Gnostics could not equate the harsh and unjust God of the Old Testament with the loving God that they felt the New Testament portrayed, so they developed the belief that the Old Testament God was a different and inferior God to that of the New Testament. However, Christianity chose to continue with the monotheistic ideals of Judaism and accept that there is only one God, the God of the Old Testament and the New Testament. If the Old Testament accurately describes the Israelite interaction with God, then he is not always just.Answer: Loving His children regardless of who they are, showing us signs of comfort, giving us mercy and compassion, leading us to light, forgiving us when we have trespassed, giving us life and free will to choose in life, is how He just.
