Pope Joan is a documented historical fraud, a movie done on it in the seventies was not even faithful to the legend. It is really dragging the sainted name of Joan down to the ecclesiastical dump. some people even confuse the fictional female (Pope) with the Girl Knight, as some folks honestly confuse female minister Aimee Semple Mcpherson (who did puill a disappearing stunt in the twenties) with ever-evasive Aviatrix Amelia Earhart. As far as known the two women never even met! similar names and gender-bending roles. Pope Joan, however, unlike Joan of Arc (Never was) a real person.

Answer

Catholic Answer: It wasn't, because there never was a Pope Joan - it is a fable that has grown entirely out of proportion. All the popes, throughout history, are known, they have all been men, as they have all been ordained Bishop.

It is not proven. You can not prove a fictitious event that never happened.
