The term "natural rights" is one used by the enlightenment thinkers in language to try to get the concept across that people have basic rights. When this was written people didn't think they had any rights because they had always had a king. This type of thinking is revolutionary for it's time and to express it was treason to the king. In reality, there are no "natural rights" but there are the rights given to us in the Bill of Rights. The men writing the constitution wanted to make sure that those rights were written down so there could be no fuzzy thinking on what a right was exactly. So, we use those rights given in the constitution instead of having an argument over what a right is exactly and if we have it at all.
