These letters took some time to deliver, so they were written with care to ensure that the person who received it did not misunderstand the meaning.
People who have not tried these forms of communication should try them out, especially talking to people face to face. It is, although a very ancient method of communication, probably the most efficient and effective method we have. It is also free.
