Mostly psychologically. When the US soldiers first arrived in France, the German army (and the German war economy) was already exhausted and no longer able to adequately support, rest, or replace its soldiers. The French and British were already successfully pushing back the German lines. Moreover, the French and British had battle-hardened veterans as soldiers, the Americans raw recruits. They did not play a really major part in the final battles of WW 1.
But the arrival of the US troops convinced the Germans that the Allied forces now would have an even greater and continuing supply of replacement soldiers, guns and other material. And this for them was the final straw in a war that was already going wrong for them. At the same time, US President Woodrow Wilson was the only one of the Allied leaders who offered an in German eyes 'reasonable' peace plan.
The US entered the first world war in 1917. By this time the Allied Powers of the British Empire and Commonwealth (Canada, South Africa and Australia and New Zealand), France, Russia, Italy and a bunch of smaller powers had been fighting the Central Powers of Germany, Austria-Hungary and the Ottomann Empire for about 3 years. The arrival of fresh American Troops in the war provided a great boost to the allies morale and fighting power. This was somewhat balanced against the Russian revolution which removed them from the war and brought more German troops west. After being equipped and trained by their French and British mentors the American troops fought during the final year and a half of the war on the western front under their own command including battles related to the Kaser Offensive and the final 100 days offensive.

There were 3 main battles: Edgehill, which was drawn & 2 decisive Parliamentary victories, Naseby & Marston Moor. Worcester in 1653 was the final conflict.
The stages of D-Day were many days of planning and rehearsals in southern England. In the final days troops embarked on ships 3 times only to be cancelled due to bad weather.
Are you refering to the very first war , or the First World War? Obviously no-one knows how the very first war ended , but WW1 ended when the final German troops surrendered in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe).
