It would seem to me that African-American crime, as well as drugs, the druglord life, as well as rap culture all affect each other, and the collective nature of four of these factors combined affect each individual factor, dragging it down, though it has most certainly nothing to do with their skin color, as this is not a racism issue, though it may seem like a racism issue to some.

How does a traditional organized crime family differ from a organized crime entity?

A traditional organized crime family is hierarchical, with individuals serving in the roles of leader, supervisors, or workers. The more modern organized crime groups sometimes have shared leadership. They might also involve a loose confederation of groups working together to commit crimes (Osterburg & Ward, 2007, p. 617). Not necessarily. Organized crime is activity that is managed by established groups of people. Usually these groups are made up of people related through some family connections. Very big subject but the first appearance of organized crime in the U.S. began in the late 1700's. One of the first recognized "bosses" was Joseph P. Macheca who was one of the first to organize Sicilian immigrants into a gang in Louisiana. At about the same time different groups began to spring up in the North East, each more or less based on the region of Italy from which they came. Prohibition banned the sale and production of alcohol, creating a lucrative black market for bootleggers. Organized crime groups took advantage of this demand, with figures like Al Capone becoming wealthy and powerful by supplying illegal alcohol. The violence and corruption associated with Prohibition led to the rise of organized crime syndicates in major cities across the United States.

Why should gangs be considered part of organized crime?

This is an opionion question and is not allowed on WikiAnswers, but I will answer it in my opinion. A gang is a formed group. Forming a group is an organized act. Also any crime which is done in concert (that is, with the assistance of another or more persons) is also an organized crime. So if you commit a crime on behalf of a gang, it is an organized crime.
