Some parts of Europe are mountainous and some are flat. There are many mountainous regions in Southern Europe. Most of Northern Europe is part of the cast Northern European Plain. The Northern European Plain also consists of most of Europe's major rivers. The climate of Southern Europe is very warm and sunny and as a result, shrubs and trees that don't need a lot of water are common there. Northern Europe, near Scandinavia, is the total opposite. It is very cold and snowy throughout the year. Northwestern Europe, on the other hand, is in between these two parts of Europe. It is mild, cooler, and wetter. Cold winds from the north and northeast bring freezing weather in winter. This is how Europe's landforms and climates vary by region.

Although European climatic conditions are generally of a temperate, continental nature, the diverse nature of the landscape and the existence of the mountains and coasts, result in significant differences in climatic conditions from one region to the other. However, it is worth noting that the Netherlands and United Kingdom experience a disproportionately high number of tornado events.

Because of the Gulf Stream. The Gulf Stream is a warm ocean current originating in the Gulf of Mexico, crossing the Atlantic and running north along the coast of Western Europe carrying huge amounts of heat energy with it.

The Gulf Stream is assumed to be the primary reason Europe is several degrees warmer than what would normally be expected for the latitude.
