Yes they were but I think just issued by the north.
Do you mean the Spanish Civil War or the American Civil War?
Civil War
The Civil War (1861-1865) The Civil War was fought between the Union (north) and the Confederacy (south). The war was fought mainly about the issue of slavery. The Union eventually won and that is what makes us the United States of America today.
In response to the Civil War, Melville did not - write a great novel about the Civil War
Yes they were but I think just issued by the north.
In the American Civil War, both sides were Americans fighting. The South had seceded from the Union and made their own "country" called the Confederacy. During the Civil War they were mainly called the Confederates, or the Rebels. The North was considered the Union, the United States of America. On their uniforms, the Union soldiers had a belt buckle that said US on it.
That's not a question.
I would say an Army belt buckle would be worth from $60 to $100. The prices can vary by condition and manufacturer's mark and type. Go to ebay.com and watch what the final prices are on some of these---if they still allow the sale of them.
Mainly they were from southern states and were afraid slavery would be outlawed so they went to Texas to live and have slaves. Many of Texans at the time of the Civil War were Confederates. Even Union troops who were Texans and confederate wore the union belt buckle upside down to express their sympathies with the confederate cause.
If you're talking about the US Army Vietnam era canvas "pistol belt", those had BRASS female & male connections at the front. Those were SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) for DIs at US Army forts during the war, it was part of the DIs uniform. After the Vietnam War, those same pistol belts went to "Plastic" fittings (male/female connections) at the front, and the pistol belt was re-named the "utility belt." Which by the way, they most often were used for...namely carrying anything but a pistol (most of the time). In order to put/install a custom belt buckle on those belts, one might have to use the services of either a shoe repairman or luggage repair shop; either of those professions will be experienced in the use of Rivets and heavy sewing thread; as those Vietnam era pistol belts and post Viet War utility belts may be riveted or sewn or both. And it will take a heavy needle to go thru that heavy canvas belt.
They thought the US would outlaw slavery and they wanted slaves, so they went to TX, but Mexico also began the process to outlaw slavery. Many Texans fought the civil war and those in the Union army who believed in slavery would wear the union belt buckle upside down as a sign to others.
According to a website specialising in English Civil War equipment: Gunpowder was carried in bandoleers.
They were gray clothing with an ammo pouch on the side strung over there chest with a leather belt like thing along with a waist belt with the name of their battalion.
It would depend on which civil war you are referring to.
