Place the engine on a FLAT surface. Even small slopes can dramatically affect the reading on a car. When looking at the engine from the front of the car, you will find the dipstick tube on the right side of the engine, at the rear corner. It should have a yellow-looped handle, though it is possible that it could have broken off with age (you can purchase new ones from the dealer).
With the engine off, pull the dipstick, and lightly wipe off with a rag. Re-dip the dipstick all the way in, and it is good practice to rotate it back and forth one revolution. This helps the oil really stick to the clean dipstick, so you can easily read the oil level properly.
Oil level should be between the Min and Max. If at Min, add more oil. The difference between Min and Max levels is just under a quart.
