On a 1999 Impreza, unscrew the splash guard from the bottom of the engine compartment by the front whell then reach up along the front corner of the side fender to find the thinner wire bundle leading to the white socket. Twist counter-clockwise about a quarter turn and gently remove the socket from the light lens. Pull the light bulb straight out of the socket. Insert the new bulb and reverse the directions above. (Not sure if this method works on a 2005 but give it a try. I did not expect to replace the bulb from underneath the car. Go figure. It took about 5 minutes once I decided to approach it from the bottom and not from the top.)

Remove the connector from the back of your marker light assembly. The lightbulb can be removed by pushing it in and turning at the same time. Reverse the process to install your new side marker lightbulb.
The power light means the transmission goes into performance mode and each gear shifts at redline.
