I would not recommend it. I have read about it being bad for your laptop to be on sleep mode all of the time, especially if you carry it with you while it is on sleep mode. Also, your laptop will get slower after a while. I think the traveling with your laptop in sleep mode is less of a problem if you have a Solid State Drive (SSD). Never the less, I would recommend at least once a week turning your computer off entirely for a few hours.

No you cannot, while in sleep mode it shuts down your networking therefore not allowing you to download however you can turn off your monitor while this process is going on to keep it from going into sleep mode.

All batteries will drain a small amount, even if they are not being used. However, a substantial battery drain would be due to a problem with the battery or laptop. Make sure that the laptop is indeed off, though. With Vista, clicking the power button in the start menu will not shut down the laptop, but will instead put it into sleep mode. This continues to drain the battery. Some of the lights on the computer will still be lit when the laptop is in sleep mode, while no lights will be on if the laptop is turned off.

I am not sure exactly what you mean by this question, but I thing you mean, "When you put your laptop into sleep mode does it shut down?" the answer to the question I just stated would be: When you put your laptop into sleep mode, it does not shut down, it just turns the screen blank to save battery power. To exit out of sleep mode you can either move around your mouse, or press any button on your keyboard. Once you do this, all the windows that you had up when you turned your computer to sleep, should still be on your screen. Hope this helped!
