In most cars it is as simple as looking at your gas indicator on the dashboard. Usually on the fuel gauge is a small picture of a gas pump. On one side or the other of the picture there will be a small triangle arrow that points to the side that the gas cap is located on.

The door unlock button also unlocks the fuel door. Then, just push on the side of the fuel door closest to the front of the car.

There is not release. The fuel door has a lock. When the doors are locked, the fuel door is locked. When the doors are unlocked the fuel door is unlocked. When the doors are unlocked, press on the front of the fuel door (the side closest to the front of the car). It should pivot open.
you just push down on the fuel door and it should spring up. If it doesnt there is a realese in side the trunk right below the fuel door.

You don't! It is only telling you which side your fuel door is on not whether the door is open or not.
