Most auto parts stores will test your charging system for zip.
You take a digital multimeter, check for voltage (should be between 13.6 and 14.6), then test for amperage output (IIRC, the 4.3 for that year came standard with a 105 amp alternator).
Remove the belt from your 1994 Chevy Astro Van 4.3 liter engine alternator. Remove the wiring harness from the back of the alternator. Remove the alternator retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install the new alternator.
Trouble code P0700 means:Transmission control system malfunction
The voltage regulator is built into the alternator.

The 1998 Chevrolet Astro Van voltage regulator is part of the alternator. The voltage regulator cannot be individually changed. You will need to change the entire alternator.
I believe it is integral to the alternator... i.e. if the voltage regulator dies you need to buy a new alternator

You need an OBDII scanner to retrieve the trouble codes.
Trouble code P0128 means:Coolant thermostat (coolant temp below thermostat regulating temp)
the voltage regulator is built into the alternator, check voltage at battery connections should be 14.5 volts
Trouble code P0102 means:Mass or volume circuit low input
The alternator is failing.
