How do Jews spend their day?

Orthodox religious Jews will:

• pray 3 times a day - morning, afternoon and evening.
• cover their heads with a hat or 'kippa'.
• eat only kosher food.
• say a blessing before eating and grace after meals.
• dress in a modest manner.
• boys and men will wear fringes on 4 cornered garments called 'tzitzit'
• study the Torah (5 books of Moses) and related religious texts.
• obey the laws of the country they are living in
• behave with respect to other people

Of course many Jews are not religious and many not undertake some or all of these activities.

Other than that they will have regular lives, working, studying, taking care of homes and family.

Virtually all Jews wake up in the morning, get out of bed, wash or shower, put on clothing, and have something to eat.

The following are some activities that may or may not be included in the daily routine of an individual Jew:

- say the morning prayer at home, office, or synagogue

- say the afternoon prayer at home, office, or synagogue

- say the evening prayer at home, office, or synagogue

- go to work

- go to school

- read or study some works of Judaic commentary or current events

- attend a class on a Judaic or secular topic, either in person or on-line

- take a nap

- have lunch

- have dinner

- meet with friends
