What are antioxidants?

According to the American Heritage Dictionary an antioxidant is a molecule that inhibits oxidation, which produces free radicals, which damages or kills cells, which are the building blocks of body. Antioxidants neutralize free radicals by giving them one of their own electrons. The antioxidant molecules don't become free radicals themselves by losing an electron because they are stable in either form (oxidized or reduced). They act as scavengers, helping to prevent cell and tissue damage that could lead to disease. Your cells produce the antioxidant enzymes glutathione, catalase, superoxide dismutase (SOD), and some others which neutralize free radicals naturally in the cell, but due to oxidative stress, your body may not be able to produce enough of these enzymes, especially as you age. Vitamins C and E, carotenoids and selenium are antioxidants.

How can antioxidant act as antiaging agent?

Antioxidants help to neutralize harmful free radicals in the body, which can damage cells and accelerate aging. By reducing the oxidative stress caused by free radicals, antioxidants can help to prevent premature aging of the skin and other organs. Regular intake of antioxidant-rich foods or supplements can support healthy aging and maintain youthful skin appearance.

What does an antioxidant do for you?

Because our bodies need oxygen to function, many reactive byproducts accumulate in our cells (such as hydrogen peroxide). These chemicals, called oxidants (or free radicals) try to strip electrons away from other molecules and cause damage to cells. Normally, we have varying mechanisms to fight these antioxidants (such as enzymes or reducing agents), but sometimes the radicals can escape and start to cause damage. Taking in antioxidants helps to prevent these molecules from damaging our cells.

What vitamin is used for healthy skin?

I usually take both Vitamin E and Vitamin C...Why?Just simply because Antioxidants such as vitamin E act to protect your cells against the effects of free radicals, which are potentially damaging by-products of energy metabolism.Vitamin C is also a highly effective antioxidant. Even in small amounts vitamin C can protect indispensable molecules in the body, such as proteins, lipids (fats), carbohydrates, and nucleic acids (DNA and RNA) from damage by free radicals and reactive oxygen species that can be generated during normal metabolism as well as through exposure to toxins and pollutants (e.g. smoking). Vitamin C may also be able to regenerate other antioxidants such as vitamin E (1).Well i do most both C and E for my food suplements and i drink 9-13 glass of water for hot countries also 9 hours of sleep at night or in a day for(Night Shift).Think Positively. Thanks!
