Cats protect their family (if needed) by hissing, clawing, scratching, biting, meowing, and sometimes hiding for long periods of time (3 - 4 days at the most, so don't worry all you "Missing Cat!!" owners.).

Naturally, a cat will hiss for about 35% of the time when its trying to knock an enemy back. Then have sharp claws, and extremely fast reflexes, so they will normally try clawing at the enemy, then leaping back a short distance. If they hit the enemy, they will run away. If the enemy catches up to them the cat will attempt to out run it, and may even kick the enemy with its back claws. Sometimes if its small enough the cat will bite, or even stop instantly while running and hiss for 5 seconds, shorter if the enemy keeps running.

Unlike dogs, who have strong instincts to protect its flock, cats do not normally do this. They normally tend to care for themselves, and protect themselves.

There are of course stories of cats being very protective of humans, but this is not their normal behaviour.

There are still many ways cats protect humans. One of the most important roles of cats today is pest control.

To illustrate this I would like to point out that cats in the olden days were creatures of witches and their witchcraft. As a result of this, many blamed the cats when diseases spread like wildfire. In certain cities, they killed off all the cats in order to fight the plague (black death) that ran across the world like wildfire.

By doing so, they helped the actual carriers of the plague instead, something that is considered to be one of the reasons for some few entire cities to be more or less wiped out by the plague.

Cats protect us humans by killing mice and rats. In particular rats have a Biology that make them ideal for certain diseases that also may infect humans.

I, for one, consider this the best feature of the cat in the "unintentional" act of protecting humans. It is a byproduct, but very well present and measurable by statistic means.

Fleas on a cat are probably either dog fleas or cat fleas (these are two different species, but despite the name, either can survive on either a dog or cat ... or for that matter on other mammals). Both of them can and will bite humans.

Can you get fleas from your cat?

Yes, definitely. Fleas can infest almost any mammal. For example, I took my cat outside for a stroll, and a few days later I was itching like crazy. So was she. If you think you have fleas from your cat, I suggest flea bombing the house, flea shampooing your cat, and yourself.

You have found a flea on your cat will it have more?

There is a high probability that your cat will have more fleas on it. Fleas are tiny little things that reproduce fast, and your cat could probably have eggs or more fleas on it. If you want to prevent fleas, there are really good medicines out there you could use.
